We are all familiar with a conventional screen door. Almost every home has one. We may not even
realize that the swing screen door is an inconvenience. Often we use our foot to keep the screen
door open while we unlock the door to bring in our groceries. You always have to open both the
entry door and the screen door year round, even when you don’t need protection from insects. In
fact, when you really think about it, we only need a screen when we want ventilation
during the insect season. A conventional screen door can completely block the beauty of the
entry door.
Years ago a retractable screen door was developed in Europe. Over the last ten years, this ingenious
screen door became the best solution to keeping the insects out. The retractable screen is stored
in a slim housing mounted on either the left or right side of your doorway. To extract the screen,
simply slide the guided handlebar across to the opposite side. The screen mesh uncoils from its
housing, similar to the tape measure we are accustomed to using today. To retract the screen back
into its protective housing, just slide the handlebar back. A built in retraction spring ensures that
the screen mesh is neatly stored, ready to go when you need it the next time.
The New SlideControl Feature allows you to control the placement of your screen. The handlebar stays where you put it. Other systems can’t compare. They use magnets or latches to keep their screens in place. Some manufacturers offer optional tension regulators to reduce the retraction speed of the screen. This leaves the screen fabric loose and therefore the system is vulnerable to damage. With SlideControl the handlebar stays put. There are no magnets or latches and the screen fabric is always taut.
The greatest benefit of the RetractAway Screen is when it’s not in use. The screen is not in the way like other conventional screen doors. The RetractAway Screen is ready to be pulled out when ventilation is desired and protection from insects is needed. When retracted, it is sheltered from the elements, and drastically reduces the chance of accidental damage to the screen.
